About Me

ABOUT ME!

I just finished my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Political Science and I am interested in pursuing my masters in counselling but until then I've decided to run away from all of my western responsibilities and move to South Korea to teach English!  A few problems with this plan besides the fact that my life is the embodiment of Murphey's Law:
  • I can barely make coherent sentences of my own in English and I often use my best friend, Heather, as a translator because of this inability but hopefully my new employers will not catch on to this obvious flaw.
  • I've never really travelled on my own especially in a country where only 10% of the citizens can speak English and so   as someone who used to suck at charades, I am going to have to either become a charades-whiz or bite the bullet and try to speak Korean and just deal with the snickering that comes along with that option
  • I've never lived by myself for a long period of time so I'm going to have to endure being alone and as someone who has never fully learned how to internalize my own speech, I'm sure I'm going to come out of this seeming even more crazy than before when now the only person to talk to on a regular basis is the figure in the mirror
  • I'm the kind of girl who can't find her way out of a paper bag and now I'm smack dab in a new city with what I perceive to  jibber-jabber on each sign.  Let the confusion and adventures of a lost girl ensue...
As for the wanna-be-or-already-are die-hard fans of the Mackenzie club, I've written a little extra about me so that you don't forget the bundle of bubbly-fun that used to give Canada that extra something-something .  Here are few of my idiosyncracies, although there are too many to list in their entirety:

I'm terrified of heights and yet I love to go hiking, to peer over the edge of a cliff, and the ferris wheel is still one of my favorite rides at an amusement park. Cut flowers make me sad so people tend to give me potted plants(I was once given a venus fly-trap). I laugh at the dumbest things but I definitely appreciate intellectual humour. I like cat naps and to flop down on a blanket in the park to read, people watch, and play with the cute dogs that pass by. I'm extremely clutzy and have broken many toes and my nose due to my inability to watch where I'm going or avoiding the walls and furniture. I'm completely animal crazy (except for snakes, I like to look as long as they don't touch me) and I have always grown up in a household full of pets. I love tacos, dark chocolate, making sushi, drinking slushies on a patio in the sun, watching thunderstorms, and finding lucky pennies. I'm  a major nerd so documentaries, crime shows, and reading academic articles from my favourite search engine, JSTOR, are my idea of a good time.

So throw these characteristics into a pint-sized, blonde feminist and you've got yourself a Mack of the 007 calibre.  South Korea has no idea what is in store for it and I'm sure that it's going to be a wild and bumpy ride for the next year so hold on to the keyboard, keep your eyes glued to the screen, and come along for the adventure that I've entitled "Mack Goes Murphy."
